Changing Lives Charity and Andrew House

The work of Andrew House is to support people dealing with the challenges of offending, addiction, mental health issues or homelessness; helping them to find hope and a future.

Changing Lives Charity [CLC] was formed in 2015 through the vision of a number of Christians in Clevedon to ensure that the work and ministry at Andrew House was sustained when the council withdrew funding.

At the same time, the trustees were concerned that the faith element of the work at Andrew House had diluted and agreed to take back the operational work at the house.

A programme called  Volunteer Plus (V+) has been developed to bring structure to the volunteering and extends to non residents of the house.

CLC acquired the freehold of Andrew House from Mullers with significant loans from     Mullers themselves and trustees of CLC.

The trading part of the charity broadly breaks even and Enhanced Housing Benefit covers the costs of running the house. What they don’t cover is the vital support (counselling, mentoring etc) that helps transform lives. We look for grant funding to cover these costs, but there has been a significant shortfall in recent years.  If we continue at the current rate we will run out of cash in a little over a year.

We also need to repay Mullers the money they lent us and we are investigating a Shared Ownership investment model pioneered by Hope into Action.   This will involve a number of investors owning a share in the house for which they would be paid an interest rate – and (depending on the model) a share of any increase in value of the house.
