Released in 1994, Mariah Carey’s hit All I want for Christmas is you is one of the most the most popular Christmas songs ever. It is number one in the 2021 edition of the Official Chart Company’s top 40 Christmas songs. Other Christmas songs are available of course.
Any chart of the most popular Christmas songs is a can of earworms that could well stay with you ‘til Easter. Some are about joy, others about sadness. But all of them agree that Christmas should be a happy time.
Let’s go back about 2000 years to the first Christmas, you know the one where Jesus was born Away in a manger as the children sing.
The first to hear about it, were shepherds – minimum wage farm workers looking after a flock of sheep. Suddenly BOOM! Flood lights everywhere and a super-bright angelic messenger saying “Don’t be afraid”. That’s easy for him to say! But what was the message?
“Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Luke 2 v 11&12
And as if the first angel wasn’t frightening enough, “Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests’” Luke 2 v 13&14
You know what I think? I think that God is saying...
“All I want for Christmas is you!”
Why not visit one of the churches in the town this Christmas and see what all the fuss is about:

PEACE
Tim Daplyn writes: “My Peace Poppy went on an Armistice Day adventure to London last weekend*. It even featured on the front page of The Sunday Express. The following link tells something of the story. There will be more in this week's* Church Times”
*this would have been the Armistice weekend.
CTiC exists to support local churches to work together and develop healthy relationships with each other.
Whilst the churches all meet in different locations and express faith in different styles, they all share a common purpose: to demonstrate the love of Jesus to all in Clevedon.
